. The final of the Air Rifle Island Individual Championship event (North United Trophy) was staged On Friday the 17th of February 2012. 20 participants took part in this year's event which was split into 3 classes. Classes B & C being shot at the North United range and the A class being shot at the Cobo United range In the C class, Nigel Leale (North United), a newcomer to the sport shot a superb 524 to win his group. On the night Nigel's score would have been sufficient to beat a couple of the A class shooters. Adam Norman (North United) won the B class with a score of 536 some 25 points clear of the St Pierre club's Alan Batiste. At Cobo, the A class included a 10 shot olympic final for the top 4 shooters. Competition was strong with Andrea Guillou (Cobo United) leading after the main shoot of 60 shots. Her husband Paul (Cobo United) was just 1 point behind on 550. Jamie Le Page (Cobo United), currently on good form was in 3rd position just 4 points behind and Chris Workman (North United) a further 6 points behind Le Page. The Olympic final consists of 10 shots, each fired one at a time within a time limit of 75 seconds. The score of each shot is called out so each shooter can work out if they are making up any ground or falling behind. Shots were traded equally by all shooters. After 5 shots, Paul had caught up with Andrea, being just 0.1 points behind. A bad 6th shot caused him to fall behind again but he managed 4 tens to finish just 0.5 points behind his wife. Le Page and Workman, previous Island Champions remained 3rd and 4th. Mike Creber, GARA's competition secretary commented "That was the best final I have seen. It was so close". Andrea Guillou once again makes history in local shooting by becoming the first woman to win the 10 metre Island Championship. Andrea is also the current holder of the 6 yard Island Championship. Both Andrea and Paul Guillou will represent Guernsey in the Kenetex Channel Island Championship at the end of March. Full Results |
